Bearing in mind that the German Physiks Emperor integrated amplifier is a very expensive product, Terry was sticking his neck out in giving it his Best Amplifier of 2021 Award, as there would be those that would accuse him of choosing it on the basis of the price alone. Terry is not a man who is frightened of saying what he believes. When he reviewed the Emperor integrated amplifier last November he was very seriously impressed with what he heard and he pondered that, “… it might even be a perfect integrated amplifier.” His comments in the video when he announced the award show that he is still mightily impressed with the Emperor: “I have to say I am definitely not picking this product as the winner because of its price, but I have to pick it as the winner because of its performance. The German Physiks Emperor Extreme Integrated amplifier, at £33,500 is the most expensive product that I have reviewed to date, but from all of the amplifiers I have reviewed in my room, it delivered the most composed sonic delivery whereby you don’t hear the amplifier. It gets out of the way and allows the speakers to create sonic images in a genuinely 3-dimensional sound-stage and that is extremely stand out. Especially with its precision of sound that’s not analytical, but still with great musicality and tonality and insane bass control. All at a level that I haven’t had in my room before. So yes, it’s bloody big. Yes, it’s bloody heavy and it’s bloody expensive, but it’s also bloody awesome and I have to award it as my best amplifier of 2021 despite the price, because it would be criminal of me not to.
