Welcome to our June Newsletter.

Our apologies for missing the May newsletter. Our factory has been operating throughout the lock-down. Unexpectedly, we have seen an increase in orders from several markets and this has kept us fully occupied.

We have also been busy on the marketing front and are very pleased to announce the appointment of Red Leaf Audio as our new distributor in the U.S.

New U.S. Distributor

Red Leaf Audio, who have been looking after us in Canada, have now been appointed as our distributor in the U.S. We are very happy that Larry Borden of Distinctive Stereo, our previous U.S. distributor, will continue to work with us as a Premium dealer for the Tri-State area.

Red Leaf Audio’s president, David Jensen, is not only an experienced audiophile, having previously run an audio dealership, he is also an accomplished musician and recording engineer. He recently finished work on his latest album and you can find one of the tracks, entitled, “Blood on the Ground” here.

David is extremely enthusiastic about German Physiks products and will start work on introducing our loudspeakers, electronics and cables to U.S. dealers just as soon as the travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid virus are lifted. In the meantime, he is working on arranging reviews in U.S. magazines, together with an advertising campaign. 

We asked David for his thoughts on the some of the German Physiks products that he has auditioned so far.

On the Emperor Stereo power amplifier

“During my 40 years in the audio business I have had the pleasure of first-hand experience with many power amplifiers, from many of the ultra-elite manufacturers around the world, but the German Physiks Emperor amplifier is truly something special. Before I get to the sound quality I need to comment on the fit and finish, it’s exemplary! I am told that German Physiks hired a leading industrial designer to handle the visual aspects of the amplifier and it shows.⁣ ⁣

I was immediately struck by its ability to render the colours and textures of the instruments in a way that few amplifiers are capable of. I was also struck by the sense of ease the amplifier had. The German Physiks Emperor amplifier sounds like the sound is effortlessly emanating from a place outside of the speakers, causing the speakers, to disappear in much the same way real instruments propagate through a room.⁣ ⁣ Once the amplifier was pushed harder, seemingly endless power reserves were on full display. Dynamics poured from the Emperor and when called upon hit me right in the chest, while never relinquishing a sense of control and ease. Even the delicate details were faithfully reproduced, no matter the complexity of the music.⁣ ⁣

As I continue to put hours on the Emperor stereo power amplifier, its sound is becoming increasingly refined and it is continuing to improve in its ability to produce the air and space around the instruments, creating a sound stage that is holographic in nature. I am so thoroughly impressed with the Emperor stereo power amplifier that I am now eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Emperor Pre-amplifier!”

On the HRS-130 loudspeakers

“Once connected, I noticed immediately the sense of depth, space and air. although I had not spent any time positioning them correctly yet. There was also a coherency and speed that made instruments spring to life in the room, which is no doubt the result of having one driver delivering everything from 200Hz and up. As I continued to position them with more precision, the speakers began to completely disappear sonically, leaving a 15 meter deep virtual space in the 6 x 4 meter room. Bottom end was extremely well integrated into the rest of the spectrum and never sounded as if it was separate or differed in colour and texture and yet was still capable of producing bass notes that seemed to go down to the very foundation of the building. As every audiophile will attest, pianos are notoriously difficult to reproduce correctly, but the German Physiks HRS-130 presented them in one of the most authentic way that I have heard in my 40 plus years as a musician and recording engineer.”

On the Pion N3 ZF power cable

“Rather than re-voicing the system, it simply improved many of the desirable qualities. The colours and textures of individual instruments became more evident, the layers within the music were revealed as if some had shone a light on them and the sound stage and depth focused, akin to someone adjusting a lens on a camera to bring the image into clear focus. The treble was more refined, with a shimmer on cymbals rarely heard, while at the same time the bass was more controlled and there was air and space present around acoustic basses. Voices became more natural and had a palpable quality.”

In the future …

David tells us that he plans to purchase a pair of our PQS-302 loudspeakers together with a pair of Emperor mono power amplifiers. That is a combination that will be impressive, both sonically and visually. All of us at German Physiks look forward to a long and successful collaboration with David and his colleagues.
