His first job as a student allowed him to buy his first audio system: an entry level Yamaha receiver and a pair of Bose 301 loudspeakers. Later, when he received his university scholarship he was able to buy his first high-end system: a Thorens turntable, Counterpoint preamplifier, Bryston power amplifier and a set of Infinity loudspeakers. Seeking to improve this, he replaced the system’s original Radio Shack cables with Monster Cable. This allowed the system to “… bloom and become more holographic”, opening his eyes to the possibilities offered by upgrading system components. Basile told us, “My Queens apartment became the meeting place for all my friends on the weekends through the college years. The neighbors were very tolerant, but thought we were weird, especially following loud auditions of progressive rock bands, like King Crimson. They also had earned the right to make song requests, which I made sure were fulfilled.” After graduating Basile had a successful high-level corporate career working on three continents with Chase, IBM, Dell, HSBC and KPMG. During this time, he was based for a while back home in Greece. He had become acquainted with German Physiks and decided to set up as the local importer and distributor. Despite Greece being a comparatively small market, he was surprisingly successful, showing what enthusiasm and determination can achieve. Sadly for us, this came to an end when his career once more took him overseas. Now, having retired from corporate life, he has decided to turn his hobby into a full time business, in order in his words, “… to allow similarly-minded audiophiles to have a place to experience our distilled knowledge in the high end space and hopefully, introduce the next generation to the joy of owning and enjoying a great audio system.” Hopefully, the enthusiasm and determination that made Basile’s venture as our distributor in Greece such a success, will enable him to make Locrian Audio equally successful.
