The popular UK audio reviewer Terry Ellis has given our Borderland Mk IV omnidirectional loudspeakers his Best of 2024 Stand Out HiFi Product Award. Terry announced this on his Pursuit Perfect System YouTube channel earlier this month: https://bit.ly/4iypXDe In the video Terry said: “The best sounding speaker I had here to review this year was the German Physiks Borderland Mk IV. What a stunningly good hifi speaker they are. And I think it’s the combination of the very wide-band DDD driver and how that has no crossover until the bass region. And how free-sounding the speakers are because they are not constrained by a cabinet around the DDD driver, so there’s no cabinet around the vocals, around the midrange and around the treble. So that all just sounds so free. But then, the built-in 12-inch passive subwoofer produces a lot of great bass, but also blends and supports the upper bass and vocal regions so well that you get a lovely full and warm and fantastic vocal.” This follows from Terry’s very enthusiastic review of the Borderland published earlier this year: https://bit.ly/4aMnBfj A few quotes from Terry’s original review demonstrate just how enthusiastic he is about the Borderland: On vocals
“They were fantastic. Detailed, clear, emotive, with fantastic tone, timbre and timing. Fantastic.” On the bass
“But even better was the fact that the bass was full, it was warm, it was chewy, but it wasn't fat or bloated at all. So that means that it just dissipates. That warmth dissipates fantastically well and quick and that allows for a very open and see-through onto the music type of sound stage. So, there's no congestion of the middle part of the sound, even though we've got a lot of fullness and warmth there. That balance that the Borderlands strike up I think is absolutely perfect”. “And you never ever once feel like you're listening to a speaker. You always just feel like you're listening to music event, or samples, or sound, or just whatever instrument’s happening in your listening room.” Terry concluded his review
“The Borderlands are very different speakers to look at, but I think they look really cool and I like the fact that they take up less floor space than some of the other larger speakers that I've had in here. And yet they still sound like a really big speaker. And it's the bass that's definitely got me. It's got me because I can listen to some electronic music, or some big vibing reggae. And, you know, the pressure, the bass just makes that music come alive for me. But then the next day I could listen to some folk, or some classic, or some jazz, or some big female vocalists, or some rock and the Borderlands deliver all of the things you want from all of those (types of) music, like delicacy, or dynamics, or sound stage spatiality.” The Borderland is an exceptionally good loudspeaker, even if we say it ourselves. Don’t just take our word for it. He is what a distributor recently told us after they received their first pair of Borderlands. Rather than correct their English, we have quoted them verbatum, as this gives a better sense of their enthusiasm. “To describe our feelings - from the first note, we got goosebumps and felt that everything was not only in order, but that everything played not only fun and attractive, but above all incredibly faithfully. Historically, we have really only sporadically encountered something that not only caught our attention, but also amazed us. And Borderland is one of those products with no frills.” If you ever have the opportunity to listen to a set of Borderlands, please don’t pass it up.
