July 2020 | Newsletter No. 14

Welcome to our July Newsletter.

We have two items for this month. Firstly, we have a new a new distributor in the Philippines and secondly, we have some examples to show that you are not restricted to using our loudspeakers only with solid-state power amplifiers.

New distributor in the Philippines

We are pleased to announce that L & C Audio has been appointed as our exclusive distributor in The Philippines.

This is our first time to enter this market and we don’t think we could have found a bette representative. Carlos Cojuangco, L & C’s CEO and his business partner Leonard Co, have impressed us with their can-do attitude and their desire to learn about our products.  We look forward to a long and successful relationship with them.

German Physiks and tubes do play nicely together

People tend to think that German Physiks loudspeakers only work with solid-sate amplifiers, however over the years we have come across many customers who have successfully combined our loudspeakers with tube power amplifiers. To illustrate this, here are three examples of tube-based German Physiks systems that we have recently come across.

German Physiks and Jadis

This pair of Borderland Mk IVs is being driven by a pair of Jadis JA200 tube monoblocks.  The JA200 uses ten KT88 output tubes to produce 160W, which is more than enough to drive the Borderland. This system belongs to the CEO of our Philippine distributor and we understand that this is a particularly sweet sounding combination.

German Physiks and Audio Research

This is another system put together by our Philippines distributor, L & C Audio, this time using the Borderland Mk IV with a pair of Audio Research Reference 160 monoblock tube amplifiers. Each one of these uses four KT88 tubes to produce 140W.

In a post on their Facebook page, L & C Audio described this system as, “Amazing”.

German Physiks and TriangleArt

This pair of Borderland Mk IVs is in a system in the US and is being driven by a pair of TriangleArt Reference tube amplifiers. These use four KT-88s per channel to deliver 160W.

Also in this system are a TriangleArt Signature turntable and a TriangleArts Reference phono stage.

When using German Physiks loudspeakers with tube amplifiers …

German Physiks loudspeakers are a nominal 4 ohm load, so any tube power amplifier used should have a 4 ohm tap on its output transformer. Without this, the low end is likely to sound soft.

Another way of using our loudspeakers with tubes that we have seen on a number of occasions in the Far East, is to use a solid-sate amplifier on the woofers and tubes on the DDD drivers. This way, the bottom end has the control and power that only a solid-state amplifier can deliver, while the DDD drivers provide the smoothness that a tube amplifier is best able to deliver.

Until next time…
