The PION C 250 D (digital)

Single Power Conditioner Moduls

Derived from our sophisticated 8-Channel-Power-Conditioner German Physiks now offers their "Digital" and "Analog" Power-Conditioner units as fully independent single conditioner modules with separate input and output connectors.

pion250_1As in the 8-Channel-version the main purpose is the effective supression of high frequency components in the AC-powersupply and the principle function is that of a true filter. Using the same basic electronic circuit design the difference between the two versions is their application - the "Digital" is the choice for source components, - the "Analog" is the conditioner for power amplifiers.

Besides a highly efficient filter circuit, one of the goals when developing these conditioners was to make sure that, while removing high frequency components from the AC-powersupply signal, no new distortions are created in the filter circuit itself, which are finally added again to the AC-signal at the output. Many filter designs available in the market do that and the degree of this effect, which often has not been taken care enough, is depending on the chosen filtertype, the running conditions and the specific choice of electronic parts used inside.

When run close at their specific technical limits and near "satura-tion" many parts tend to produce their own distortions, which finally can be heard in the musical perfor-mance. In addition, industrial production quality and internal construction of parts have also influence on their sonic abilities. In the German Physiks filter modules only top quality parts available in the electronic industry for that particular application have been chosen. The parts specifications and allowed maximum loads far exceed the range they are used in. For example only capacitors which can handle more than 400 Volts AC are allowed in the design. Inductors are operated far below their saturation. The final selection of parts was based on extensive listening tests.

As a result of this efforts the difference is audible. The "Digital" module is particularly designed for extremely effective high frequeny filtering, starting already well within the audible frequency range and going up to the Megahertz-spectrum. In order to reach this high "cleaning effect" the power handling capacity is limited to about 250 Watts. Though it can also be used with small integrated power amplifiers, it works best with low power source components like CD-Players, DA-Converters, other digital equipment and preamplifiers.

The "analog" module is designed for high power gear. It can handle a load of up to 1200 Watts and thus provide almost every power amplifier in the market with a clean 220 Volt AC Signal or 110 Volt AC Signal. Due to its very low-resistance-circuit there are no compromises on dynamic performance - a problem often seen in many other conditioner-designs, occuring especially when "filtering" big power amplifiers. The technical priciple of the "analog" module is similar to that in the "digital" module. Filtering only starts at higher frequencies than with the digital unit, but still near the upper end of the audible frequency range.pion250_2

Though we recomend the use of these two conditioner-modules within their specified power ranges, it is important to know that when using them at a higher power consumption, for instance when hooking up a big amplifiers to the digital module, there will be no danger or damage! Save operation is always secured.

Filtering in both conditioner-types works in both directions, from the powerline to the component and back from the component to the powersupply system. Thus not only high frequencies superimposed on the oncoming powerline signal are effectively absorbed, but also high frequency distortions originated in a single piece of equipment itself - particularly important, when digital equipment is in use - can not be thrown back and influence the rest of the system.

Besides top quality parts, wiring inside the units is done with 2,5 and 4 qmm and all connections are tightly screwed or soldered (no plugs inside) in order to keep resistances low and dynamic performance up.

The whole circuit, including inlet and outlet devices, is moulded in a heavy, specially modified polymer, normally used in the aerospace industry. It suppresses any current-induced movements of parts and wiring and also shields the units from mechanical influences from the outside, makes them practically shockproof. Microphonic effects are completely eliminated.

An additional case therefore could be ommited, since the polymer, with its pleasant stonelike appearance, gives such a degree of stability no other kind of housing could provide.

With these conditioners the listener will experience a deep natural soundstage with revealed details not heard before, and the tranquillity of the music makes it a pleasure to listen for hours.

When using this kind of conditioner for the first time, a change will be noticed with the subjective feeling that the upper frequency ranges might be turned lower. But when listening longer the much higher degree of resolution combined with a much more relaxed presentation of music - due to the lack of distortions - will be appreciated and shows that the unit does exactly, what it is designed for - getting you closer to the music.

Finally, the power conditioners are made complete in a perfect way by the German Physiks "Power Cord", because this cable preserves the AC-power-signal on its way to the component, definitively not adding any new high frequency distortions, once it has been "cleaned" by the conditioner. This way conditioner and power cord act as a unit.

One can buy as many units as needed possible to hook up more than one component to the "Digital".
